The Bandra studio — where the saree meets the bride

The Bandra studio is where the saree finishes its journey. Once the textile arrives from Madanpura — folded between sheets of acid-free muslin, the weaver's signed certificate paper-clipped to the pallu — the work that happens here is quiet and surgical. We pleat by hand, fit each saree to the wearer's exact rise and waist, and engineer the pre-drape so the pallu falls precisely where the wearer wants it: shoulder, elbow, or the second knuckle.

Fittings are by appointment, in a single private room with a full-length mirror, three sets of natural-light bulbs, and a long century-old teak table where we lay each saree out flat before draping. The room holds two: the client and one guest. Tea is the studio's only luxury — we serve a Banaras blend our atelier has bought from the same shop on Vishwanath Gali since 2024.

This is also where dispatch happens. Every saree is checked under three light temperatures (north-light, warm tungsten, and the cool LED of a hotel ballroom) before it leaves the studio. Every blouse is fitted in person whenever the bride is in city. Every dispatch — domestic or international — is hand-packed in a cotton garment bag stamped with the weaver's loom number, then placed in a Japanese paulownia-wood box for our bridal commissions.

If you are visiting from Delhi, Dubai, London, New York or Singapore, write to us a fortnight ahead and we will arrange a hotel pickup. Most international brides spend two hours with us across two visits — one for the saree, one for the fitting. We will tell you honestly if a piece is wrong for you. We will quietly ask another weaver to start a new one if it is.

A four-minute walk from Bandra station's west exit; valet parking available on Pali Hill Road from 12:00 onwards. Wheelchair accessible. We can arrange a hotel pickup from the Taj Lands End, Sofitel BKC, The St. Regis Lower Parel or the Four Seasons Worli.

FROM THE LOOM TO BANDRA

How a saree travels from Madanpura to your fitting

Every Danyah Banaras saree begins on a wooden pit loom in Madanpura and ends on a teak table in Bandra West. The journey between is documented at six stages — warp, weft, zari, finish, certificate, dispatch — and a folded muslin envelope carrying the original loom swatch travels with each piece.

The Mumbai studio sees the saree only once it has cleared the weaver's own inspection. Everything past that point is fit, pleat, and dispatch.
